FERC Petition Information

The long and many times frustrating road which has led to the development of a Grand Lake Shoreline Management Plan is winding down. The past three years have seen countless stakeholder and public meetings to gather ideas on what the Grand Lake Plan should include and gage the public’s view of the proposed plan.

The initial draft, driven by the stakeholder working groups and the consulting firm hired by the GRDA to assist in the plan’s development, was unanimously rejected by a majority of Grand Lake stakeholders.

Kevin Easley and the entire GRDA staff are to be commended for recognizing the public’s overwhelming displeasure with that initial restrictive draft. They went work developing a plan designed to be user friendly and maintaining Grand Lake’s role as an economic engine while meeting the objectives of the protecting the environment and the lake’s water quality. They have done their part and now it’s our responsibility to do ours.

I would urge all Grand Lakers to show their approval for the proposed plan by signing the petition of support to be submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. FERC is the last hurdle in adopting a plan of moderation.
